All the answers to your most frequently asked questions about concret art coating

Calculate the area you need to cover in square feet and select a kit that fits your calculated area. It’s advisable to factor in an additional 20% for potential loss, especially with concrete coatings, as these estimates are based on smooth, thin applications under 1mm. It’s common to use more concrete than initially planned.

How do you calculate your area? For each surface, measure the Length (L) and Width (W), rounding up to the nearest whole number. If your measurements are in feet, multiply the length by the width for each individual surface (for instance, each wall and the floor). This will give you the area in square feet for each surface. Sum up these areas to get the total square footage needed.

If Dimension in inches: Length x Width /144

Example, area of 72 inches x 44 inches

(W)72 x (L)44= 3168 square inches

3168/144: 22 sq. ft.

Our concrete coating can be applied to a wide range of stable, solid, and clean surfaces, including MDF, finished plywood, fiber cement (Durock), K3 chipboard, high-density styrofoam, and more.

It is also suitable for existing surfaces such as laminate countertops, drywall with finished joints, painted walls, porcelain, vinyl, furniture, and others.

For covering uneven surfaces like ceramic, brick, or stucco, Concrete Art Coating’s concrete leveler can be used to create a smooth base for the coating.

Our concrete coating should not be applied to:

1. Unstable or crumbling surfaces.

2. Surfaces contaminated with oil or other substances that cannot be cleaned, as this may hinder proper adhesion.

3. Surfaces prone to cracking. While Art Béton’s concrete coating itself doesn’t crack, it may crack if the underlying surface does. 4. Uneven surfaces like ceramic, brick, or stucco ceilings. For these, use Art Béton’s leveler to create a smooth base.

5. Standard construction plywood typically used for flooring, as it may lead to micro-cracking in the coating.Instead, select plywood, finished plywood, or even Russian cherry wood, as these are more suitable.

We highly recommend that you install the concrete coating yourself if you have basic handyman skills, as the steps are straightforward and simply require time and attention. Alternatively, you can enlist the help of a friend, contractor, epoxy installer, jointer, or painter in your area who can do it for you. They will likely enjoy working with our products, and we’re available to answer any questions they might have. Additionally, we are acquainted with some installers experienced with our products. You can contact us with your project details and size, and we will see if we can recommend an installer based on your location.

Our concrete coating is an ideal DIY project, consisting of four easy steps:

  1. Apply primer to the surface and allow it to dry for 45 minutes.
  2. Use a trowel to apply the decorative concrete coating. Two coats are necessary, with a waiting time of 1 to 2 hours between each coat. After application, let it dry for 12 to 24 hours, then sand the surface.
  3. Apply the sealer with a roller. Only one coat is needed for a wall, but two coats may be required for a countertop or shower.
  4. Finally, apply the come or urethane. Between 2 to 4 coats are necessary to ensure the surface is completely sealed.

Concrete Art Coating’s decorative concrete is suitable for outdoor application. When using it outdoors, it’s important to use the urethane kit, which includes an impregnating sealer and urethane for maximum protection. Similar to garden furniture, it is advisable to protect the coated surface during winter, potentially by covering it with a canvas. it is advisable to protect the coated surface during winter,

Yes, it is indeed real concrete. Our product features a unique concrete mix that is applied in thin layers using a trowel. Following the application, it is sealed with a sealant and then finished with varnish or urethane for protection.

However, this warranty does not extend to the application process or installation time. To be eligible for this warranty, all instructions detailed on the product labels must be strictly followed.

Key points of the warranty include: 1. Product Replacement: In the event of defective products, a replacement is offered. 2. Application and Installation: The warranty does not cover the application process or the time taken for installation.

A thickness of 1mm is recommended for optimal durability. 4. Surface Protection: The applied surface must be protected from impacts, sharp objects, repetitive friction, knife blades, and heat sources such as a hot cauldron to prevent damage.

5. Base Responsibility: Concrete Art Coating is not responsible for the condition of the base on which their products are applied. Any instability, cracking, lack of hardness, or other issues with the base can affect the long-term performance of our products.

Our decorative concrete is ideal for countertops. Use a urethane kit for application . Its durability is comparable to hardwood flooring. The combination of sealer and urethane effectively waterproofs the concrete.

For ease of cleaning, we suggest a smooth, pore-free finish on your countertop. To achieve this, repeatedly smooth over the area with a trowel during the final coat of concrete coating. The next day, sand the surface using a hand sander (with 150 or 220 grit paper), wipe away the dust with a dry cloth, and then apply two coats of impregnating sealer, allowing at least 3 hours between each coat. After the sealer has completely dried (wait at least 3 hours), apply 3-4 coats of urethane, ensuring that the products thoroughly penetrate the concrete during steps 3 and 4.

The urethane used is food-grade, so it’s safe for food contact during cooking. However, even though your countertop is well-protected, we recommend promptly cleaning up any spills or messes during cooking.

Certainly, our system adheres well to laminate countertops, and you can use the urethane kit without any issues.

If your countertop has a rounded molding and you’re considering modifications, here are two options:

Option 1: Apply the coating following the existing shape of the countertop.

Option 2: To achieve a more modern square molding, follow these steps:

• Remove the rounded molding by first cutting the laminate on top and then pulling it off. It should come off easily after cutting. • Replace the front of the counter with 1, 2, or 3-inch MDF molding. This molding should be glued and firmly nailed or screwed for a neat finish.

In case there is a backsplash extending up the wall, you have a couple of choices:• You can coat the backsplash with concrete, shaping it with a trowel to match the existing structure. • Alternatively, for a more contemporary look, remove the backsplash using appropriate tools. Fill the resulting gap at the bottom with MDF molding or another solid material, ensuring everything is glued and securely fixed.

For any joints created during this process, fill them with filler and apply squared fiberglass tape over all the formed joints. This will ensure a seamless and durable finish.

Avoid placing hot pots directly on the counter or cutting on it; instead, use a trivet or a cutting board. If the urethane layer is damaged, it can be sanded down and recoated.

Urethane is a commercial-grade finish with superior hardness compared to varnish. It is approved for use in food processing areas and is essential for surfaces like showers and countertops. Urethane is a two-component varnish, consisting of parts A and B, which need to be mixed. Once mixed, it should be applied within 20 minutes, after which it will gradually harden. Prepare only the necessary amount for each use.

Varnish, on the other hand, is intended for wall applications. It is applied after the wall sealer to enhance washability.

Our concrete coating can be successfully applied to ceramic surfaces. To ensure a smooth application, use Concrete Art Coating concrete leveler to fill joints and level the surface. Begin by cleaning the ceramic with our TSP degreasing cleaner and allow it to dry. Then, apply the Primer (step 1) and let it dry for about 45 minutes or longer. Next, prepare to apply the Concrete Art Coating’s leveler. Start by filling the ceramic joints to level them with the surface of the ceramic. Allow this to dry for 45 minutes or more, and apply a second coat if necessary to ensure an even surface. Leave it to dry overnight, then remove any excess with a trowel or sand as needed. Reapply the Primer (Step 1) and then proceed with Steps 1 through 4 of the application process.
